This one is a whole hearted recommendation. For those of you who haven’t found it yet, check out, ‘Astrid, Murder in Paris,’ on Channel 4’s Walter presents. It’s French with subtitles and thoroughly enjoyable if you like quirky detective, puzzle fiction. Very much character driven and each plot seems to be more outlandish than the last but it’s a very satisfying and endearing watch. Tears and laughter in equal measure. Currently showing series 5, I would suggest starting with episode 1, series 1.
There is an english copy called Patience available but we found this a pale imitation.

I second this recommendation. I look forward to every episode. The English version isn’t a patch on the original and doesn’t have the same appeal as the cast in the French version. Astrid is an endearing character and all her quirks make it a must-watch for me.
