John tapped a record into the jukebox and sat down.
“Recognise it?”
Alison smiled, “We shared our first milkshake to this.”
Her hand idled across the table to touch his. As though suddenly discovering its wandering, she jerked it back.
“Are we going…?”
“We have a choice?”
“But my husband…?”
“If he’s enough…”
“My vows…”
“…promises, morals, all pillars of society’s grand architecture.”
A tear hit Alison’s cheek.
“But love is savage; it roils like a tornado scorning man-made structures, flattening everything,” he said.
“With victims crushed beneath the debris…I must go.”
As she hurried away he called, “Enjoy your Christmas.”

She’ll regret it. Maybe not now, But soon. And for the rest of her life

I think that’s how he sees it, she’ll be back forced by fate or nature or whatever you call it.

Thanks Rochelle, no idea how it will turn out but probably messily.

There are always these ‘what if’ moments in life, you just have to hope you make the right choice at the time. Nice dilemma Mike.

Thanks, it’s the dilemma I like because there’s no totally acceptable solution.

Tough call there. I hope it was the right one.

Thanks Sandra, maybe the right one for now but will she be able to sustain it or will she be back?

What to do, what to do… tough decision.

It is and there’s no satisfactory solution if you abide by society’s code and still want to follow your heart. This could run and run 🙂

Somehow this is the first of many many ends… they will be back again… soon.

They will be back but I don’t think they have any idea how to resolve the situation for a good outcome. Someone will be hurt.

It seems to me that the damage has already been done but I agree with Bjorn that it isn’t a final chapter for these two.

I don’t think it is, there’s a lot of pondering and self examination to go before it’s resolved and then maybe it won’t be resolved for the best, if there is best way.

Fun story. I like the way it’s written almost in pure dialogue (since mine was like that this week, I guess I’m kind of biased).
Merry Christmas, Mike!

Choices… not always so cut and dried. Made me think of Bridges of Madison County…
I like this, Michael!

Thanks, it’s a difficult choice for her but does she have complete control over the choice anyway?

she has a decision to make. if he’s just looking for a fling, though, i don’t think she’d go for it..

I think he’s saying love will decide and force them together whatever society and principles try to do about it.

It is and that’s what I’m enjoying exploring, hat’s the right one, happiness at the expense of her husband or remain true to her beliefs and morals at the expense of happiness.

It sounds as though she didn’t like thinking of her husband as a victim “crushed beneath the debris” so left. The other man seemed a bit spiteful. I think she’s better off with her husband. Good writing, Mick. Happy New Year 2017. —- Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, Happy New Year. She’s definitely confused, battling her conscience versus her heart. He feels what will be will be, I think. He’s expecting forces beyond their control to win, i.e fate and love.
